On Discerning God’s Calling – Guest Post By Lizzy Murphy

Hello! I’m back again today with a guest post from Lizzy Murphy. Lizzy is a writer friend of mine, and I’m so excited that she wanted to do a blog swap with me. I wrote about reasons writers should be involved in a writing community over on her blog, so feel free to go check that out here!

Hi, everybody! I’m Lizzy Murphy. I am a writer, Christian, animal lover, and I have a soft spot for chocolate, pizza, and a good book.

Thank you, Kayla, for having me! Today, I’m going to be talking about how God has shown me that writing is what I’m supposed to do with my life. Let’s get started!

I haven’t been writing very long. I started loving writing when I was sixteen years old (back in 2015), even though I consider myself to be a “newbie writer.” Much like all teenagers, I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, what I want to do as soon as I’m done with school. It’s always good to, if you do know, start working towards it at a young age, that way by the time you’re out of school, you will have a following on social media, and have a better chance (or whatever you want to do).

I have asked God a lot throughout the years if he can show me what I’m supposed to do, give me a sign. Before 2015, when I started loving writing, I was seriously considering going into the video game industry. (But, then I realized that that takes a lot of math, and then I was turned against that… I don’t like math.)

So, then, when I started love writing, I was stuck as to what I should do. Should I go into video game industry (but not with math involved) or go into writing? I even considered doing both. Have video games be my main job, and writing be a hobby. By late 2016, I was turned against video games industry. So, I kept asking God for help, to show me if writing is what I’m supposed to do.

As many of you may know, God’s answer can be a variety of things. From something as small as just a feeling you get, to God making someone you know call you up and answer your question for you. Well, I got that “Just a feeling” answer.

I was talking to my family members about my book, Keep Her Safe, and I was telling them about it, the plot, etc. And, I just got that feeling. Like, this is what I’m supposed to do. Like I said, God answers in strange ways. Some don’t feel like he has answered them, while others seem like he answers them as soon as they are done praying. We just have to pay attention. And since I’ve gotten that feeling, I’ve kept asking God periodically if this is still what I’m supposed to do. I keep getting a funny feeling when I’m talking to people about my book, or my writing in general. A good feeling, mind you. Like that’s God’s way of telling me, “You’re good. You’re doing it right, keep it up.”

I hope you all enjoyed my blog post. Thanks again, Kayla, for having me. It’s been fun! God Bless everyone. I hope you all have a great day. Bye!
